My close experience with insects!!
In my home country, Ecuador, eating insects is a common
practice in some indigenous cultures. During a trip to the Ecuadorian Amazon, I
had the opportunity to try fried Mojojoy skewers, a type of larva commonly
consumed in the region. Unfortunately, my experience was unpleasant, likely due
to my low expectations regarding its taste. However, some of my classmates
genuinely enjoyed Mojojoy, describing its flavor as buttery.
On another occasion, during a visit to a museum at my university, the tour guide offered us a free sample of salted and spiced crickets produced there. Most participants were enthusiastic about the flavor, describing it as crispy and salty. Their positive reactions almost convinced me to give them a try, but my preconceived notions were stronger.
Recently, while exploring Ecuadorian websites, I came across several insect-based products, such as cricket-based protein and flavored crickets. I also discovered that a restaurant in my neighborhood was selling fried Mojojoy. This makes me believe that the adoption of these alternative proteins is not a major challenge in my country. While some people might initially try insects out of curiosity or novelty, this could potentially lead to long-term acceptance.
